Arria Owlia EE 302 – Preston 16210 November 9, 2007 Unit F: Non-Technical Seminar Title of the seminar: DNA in Hollywood, Fact, Fiction, and Future Date, Place: September 14, 2007, Welch Hall Speaker: Dr. David Hillis Dr. David Hillis is in love with biology, and he has made this clear through his collections of butterflies, amphibians, and reptiles. He received a B.S. degree with honors from Baylor University in 1980, and an M.A., M. Ph. and Ph.D with honors from the University of Kansas in 1983, 1984, and 1985. He joined the Zoology department at UT – Austin in 1987 and was awarded the National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator Award in 1987 as well. In 1999, Dr. Hillis was chosen to receive a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, otherwise known as the “genius award.” Dr. Hillis was introduced at the beginning of the presentation by his son, who was honored to be at the presentation. His presentation began with a clip of the TV show CSI, noting that they truly attempt to make the show as real-life as possible. The show was
