Trouble in Africa, Not Again!
Large civil discord is looming in Zimbabwe, Africa? We better prepare to call up Unicef,
charge up the video cameras, and find Angelia Jolie to make an infomercial to persuade couch
potatoes in America to rescue a young child from the clutches of a war-torn country! We have all
heard it before, “For just fifteen cents a day, you can save this child’s live and feed him for a
week!!” Now, whether you donate or not, that is beside the point, the fact is that the foreign
policy the United States decides to adopt for addressing the current situation in Zimbabwe will
determine if commercials like this become part of reality for Zimbabwe.
The policy options for the United States at this juncture in time are certainly limited with
respect to how invested we are in the Middle East. Nevertheless, paying close attention and
offering what we can is certainly of great importance towards U.S interest. However, what our
foreign policy must consciously avoid is publicly supporting one side over another while the
elections are still being hashed out. Moreover, Mugabe has already used the western world as a
target for Zimbabwean aggression over the economic instability of Zimbabwe. He is now
