In our assigned reading of chapter nine of FCTA the different types of fallacies are discussed with examples and definitions. Sometimes it hard to distinguish the many different fallacies from each other with the given definitions by Barnet and Bedau. I think that there are certain fallacies that the writers commit in the text such as protecting the hypothesis. I understand the importance of an argument to be free of certain fallacies for the most professional argument, but I can’t help but to realize the impact and effect that fallacies have on the general public. For example, I was watching Fox News the other day (simply for the laugh) and the discussion was over Oba mas Muslim background. The host actually referred to him as a turban-wearing Muslim. However disgusting and ignorant his fallacy of Tu Quoque I realized that his words would probably have great affect on its viewers (mostly conservative republicans). Sure his words were untrue and unjust, but the public are unaware of his tactics and will certainly fall in his trap. So the question is: Is the person arguing with Tu Quoque or is the public making the generalization of Tu Quoque?...
