Written Problems 6– Due 2016 May 6, Friday Remember, Take the time to write legibly. Show your work! As noted above, this is in some sense a short writing assignment. Use 8 1 2 × 11 inch paper, and plenty of it . Make your diagrams big enough to see; spread out your exposition so it can be easily followed. Write your name in the upper right corner of your top sheet. Staple your pages together in the upper left corner . Deposit your completed paper in the P14 Homework Hand-in box near the front door of Wilder. Note that this is not the lab report hand-in box . (6.1) A neutron star is the collapsed remnant of a massive star. Consider a neutron star that has a mass M = 1.5 solar masses (1 solar mass = 2 × 10 30 kg) packed into a sphere with radius R = 10 km. This implies an enormous density, somewhat denser than an atomic nucleus. A magnetar is a neutron star with an unusually strong magnetic field – 10 10 T or even more. (You’ll recall that the strongest obtainable laboratory fields are only a few tens of T). Let’s explore this a bit:

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
