Roadmap and Menu
Sustainable development goals are an assortment of development goals established by
the United Nations and adopted in 2015 to alleviate poverty, enhance peace and security, and
create a conducive environment for economic growth (United Nations). A roadmap refers to
the instructions and plans in place to aid the achievement of particular goals and objectives,
while a menu refers to a list of goals, objectives, or things that should be done. The roadmap
analogy makes more sense regarding the SDGs because the goals were established with the
end perspective to create an enabling environment to enhance global sustainable
development. The United Nations also established ways to achieve the goals. Notably, a road
map provides ways to enhance achievement, while a menu lacks the ways to achieve the
goals.
