Lab#10 Statement: To study the inverting operational amplifier and calculate its gain. Operational amplifier lab trainer DC power supply Digital Multi-meter AC power source IC # 741 Theory: There are two assumptions that must be considered in studying the different op- amp based circuits which are called realistic simplifying assumptions. o Zero input current o Virtual Ground We know that A= V o/ V in In case of ideal amplifier, gain is infinity. In case of non-ideal amplifier gain is (10 5 -10 6 ) whereas, in case of nearly ideal amplifier gain is (10 4 -10 9 ). What does inverting amplifier means? An inverting amplifier means that output and input signals are 180 0 out of phase. Figure: Virtual Ground (proof): Virtual ground is a point in the circuit that is maintained at some known reference, such as ground, without actually being connected to it. This is commonly the junction of the resistor divider between input and output at the negative input pin, while the positive input pin is grounded (usually through a resistor).
