Producing for Film/Video Fauntleroy I have never given much thought to a particular film producer that I consider to be influential to me. My interest lies more with the power of the medium itself, than with the work of a select individual. As I begin to understand more and more of what is involved with production, I have a newfound appreciation for the perseverance to create. It is this perseverance, this drive to beat the odds, that I can envy in a media producer. Morgan Spurlock won the “Best Director” award at The Sundance Film Festival in 2004. That same year he was nominated for an Oscar. It was because of an idea that he dreamed up during Thanksgiving of the previous year while watching the news. A McDonald’s spokesperson was commenting about a lawsuit that her company’s food was a direct cause of obesity in several young children. The McDonalds spokesperson was denying her company’s liability, and she proclaimed McDonald’s food was nutritious. The movie “Super Size Me” was born.
