Melissa Gautier April 30, 2008 Project # 2 Rivers of Life For this assignment, I decided to look at the ecological conditions of the Kishwaukee River. I walked up and down the stream and evaluated a good quarter mile of it. To my surprise, I found many things that could be hazardous to local citizens surrounding the area. There were a few things I took into consideration when observing the stream. For instance: wildlife, fish, recreational use, and what could be done in efforts to improve the location I chose. When I arrived to the Kishwaukee River I noticed about five or six geese surrounding the stream and a couple birds as well. It seems to me that this is a place where wildlife often hang about, which to my knowledge is not a very healthy environment for wildlife to be present at. I also noticed when I observed the stream, that in the whole distance I observed, there was not one single fish present, in fact I didn’t even recall seeing movement in the water besides the flow of the stream. I believe that this is not a healthy environment for wildlife or fish, which might be the reason why I didn’t see any. Another reason that this stream is not a healthy environment is because there is too much pollution present. I saw a tire in the water, cups, cardboard boxes, plastic and paper bags, and many other materials that do not belong in the stream. This is
