Memorandum To: Simon Pestridge From: __________ Date: September 6, 2007 Re: Outsider’s View of Nike’s Success Mr. Pestridge, it truly was a pleasure to speak with you, a Nike veteran, last night over dinner. Unfortunately, during the conversation I was unable to state my opinion on Nike’s success. I am responding to you today hoping to provide an insightful point of view as an outsider. I believe there are many factors to Nike success, however the ones that stand out to me the greatest are the following: Linking Nike with highly visible celebrity athletes Adapting to a changing environment Staying focused as an authentic athletic company Celebrity Athletes Since the founding of the company Nike has celebrity athletes endorsements. Legendary runner and pupil of co-founder Bill Bowerman, Steve Prefontaine was the first in a long tradition of Nike endorsed celebrity athletes. Nike, the largest sportswear supplier in the world, promotes its products by sponsorship agreements and advertising
