During the last few decades of his life, Monet continually painted scenes of water lilies and other still-lifes until his death in 1926. “Water Lilies” uses short brushstrokes and many light airy colors. In this painting he uses shades of greens, blues, and whites to create a peaceful relaxing scene.

This painting can definitely be classified as high art. All of Monet’s works are well respected and are highly critiqued. For me, it brings upon of sense of relaxation and serenity. The light colors and brightness makes the whole seen calm. It was on a calendar in my room, and when I look at it, it

Unformatted text preview: helps me wind down to go to bed. The main reason that I like it is because of the mood it puts me in. As an impressionist painting it is out of focus. The lack of clarity make your eyes sort of wander off and imagine sitting on a calm lake in a boat just enjoying a sunny afternoon .That is the amazing thing about the painting. If I’m having a bad day, I can lose myself in the painting and it instantly relaxes me. Another reason that I value, the artwork is because of its aesthetic value. As a piece in my room, it brightens up the whole room and lightens up the atmosphere. I don’t think that Monet had any meaning in his painting. It is just a still-life that captures the beauty of nature....
