Saccharomyces cerevisiae Geneticists have studied many organisms in an effort to understand the way  information is inherited. In general, genetic vectors have been chosen because  they are easy to grow, they grow fast, they have lots of traits to select for, and  they can be crossed.  Drosophila , for example, can be grown in the laboratory  easily on semi-defined media, reproduces prodigiously and rapidly, and  possesses lots of different markers which can be selected. Moreover,  Drosophila  can be crossed with ease allowing the genetic  researcher to isolate mutations and study their interactions with other genes. The  only negative aspect to the fruit fly is the fact that its predominant form is a  diploid. Diploid organisms, by definition, have two of everything and as such have  twice the number of genes to be concerned with. When performing crosses you

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
