Examples 1.1 --- Those milk ads you see where a celebrity has milk on their lips. The argument, essentially, is: David Beckham drinks milk. So, since he’s a really rich badass, you should drink milk, too. --- Those Marine ads where the message is: “The few, the proud, the Marines”. The argument is that you’ll be more esteemed by society (or whomever) for becoming a marine. --- The old Air Jordan commercials where Mars Blackmon (a Spike Lee alter-ego) sees Michael Jordan playing basketball and says, “It’s gotta be the shoes!” Statements (Propositions): All good students are students who study regularly. (T?) The sky is blue. (T) I typed this on a keyboard in Old Main 316. (T) Every student in this class is a genius. (F!) Every student in this class is an idiot. (F?) NOT propositions: Why are you looking at this? (question) Go to Geno’s after last call at Mickey Finn’s. (command) Let’s just give A’s to everyone. (proposal) Oh, ----! (exclamation)
