 Neutrophils- stain a pink to violet hue. Function is phagocytosis
↑during bacterial infections and inflammation
↓during radiation, chemotherapy for cancer
 Eosinophils have bright-red granules in their cytoplasm.
↑ during allergies, parasitic infections, collagen diseases, diseases of spleen
and central nervous system
↓ during aplastic anemia, corticosteroid excess
 Basophils- granules stain deep blue. Release histamine, heparin, and
other mediators in inflammation response
↑ during allergies, inflammatory disorders, infection
↓ during alcoholism, anemias, malnutrition, viral infections
