Reading Questions due Feb. 20 1) What is the goal of the author in this article? The goal of the author in this article is to show that the stereotypes of life in the ghetto are not really true. Newman gives a few examples of people who live in the ghettos who are doing everything in their power to survive, but she also shows the people who are doing it wrong, like Rosa Lee Cunningham. 2) What does the notion “fictive kin” represent? Fictive kin represents honorary aunts and uncles or friends of the family who are very close to the members of the family but aren’t actually related.
