Community issues, events and activities related to the health of a whole Wellness process of adopting patterns of behavior that can lead to improved health and heightened life satisfaction The transtheoretical model: Stages of change, in this model, health behavior change is seen as a transitional process that occurs in a 5 stage cycle o Precontemplation o Contemplation decision making the second contruct allows people t balance the pros and cons of the behavior Decisions are based on the reletive importance or unimportance of the behavior change Con decisions Pro Decisions o Self Efficacy The 3 rd construct was adopted by psychologist Albert Bandura Considereed an internal state in which the person feels competent to perform a specific task o Situational Temptation situational temptation occurs at each stage of change and decreases as the person moves from the early to later stages of change Common triggers are experiencing negative emotions, such as anger or sadness, and participating in positive social events, such as parties or celebrations. o Healthy People 2010- The U.S. Government first issued this report in 1980 and revises is every ten years- Goals - Helping individuals of all ages increase life expectancy and quality of life - Eliminate health disparities among difference segments of the population- Community response ability is an underlying idea in Healthy People 2010 o Current Health Concerns- Physical Activity- Overweight and Obesity- Tobacco Use Health Belief model The health belief model was developed to understand why people failed to take advantage of accessible disease prevention programs Health behaviors are influenced by 3 classes of factors o Health concerns o Perceived threat Perceived benefits and perceived barriers 22/01/2008 11:16:00 Characteristics of mentally healthy people High sel-esteem and feel good about themselves. Respect themselvers and others Competent to accomplish things in their lives Good listening skills in their interpersonal relationships Do not fear differnences and diversity Not overwhelmed by fear. Love.
