Unformatted text preview: 1 Managerial Accounting Project Professor Kuczynski M ichael Torpe 4/28/2008 Finished Product Cleaning Process I t ems are Delivered Delivered t o customers agging and double checking work I t ems sor ted into groups 3 Company Name: Cleaning Concepts Owner: James Torpe Location: New York City and Manhasset, Long Island The company was established in 1908 by my grandfather George Torpe. For 98 years the company was called George Torpe I ncorporated and was only located in New York City. When my grandfather past away in 2005 my father took over the business. I t is a private dry cleaning company which means that you cannot just walk in, you must call fi rst and most of the t ime you are denied. My father only takes new clients if they are recommended by our customers or fr iends. This is a high end cleaning company and only the wealthy can afford i t. For example, to clean a dress shi r t costs $15 and a suit would be $25 to $50. They take pretty much anything from their customers that can be cleaned, drapes, couches, chairs, rugs Some customers of his that you may know are Barbra Walters, Robert DeNi ro, Tom Ford, Anna N icole Smith before she died and many more. I worked at the plant over the summer and there are six employees that work from 8-5 Monday th ru F riday. I t is a clean work environment and people come in monthly to make sure that the machines arent leaking any deadly toxins. Most of the customers live in NYC; the driver goes around NYC picking up the clothes and brings i t to the plant in Manhasset 4 tw ice a day, once in the morning and once around lunch t ime, between 12-1pm. The work that has been completed in the morning is then loaded in to the afternoon t ruck and delivered to the customers the same day. Yet there are many problems that occur such as lost i tems and late deliveries. The problem that this company faces is that there arent enough employees. There is only one driver that delivers all of the finished products. Also for the size of the plant, you can have a lot more employees. If there were more employees, the t imeliness of the work would be better and the quality would be more efficient. This problem can be easily fixed because for th is job you do not need to be skilled in many fields. All you need to know is how to work the equipment and drive a motor vehicle. The reason this condition exists is because the work is getting done and the customers arent complaining, so the owner doesnt see that if there were more employees that he could be bringing in more business and therefore more net income. This would benefit the 5 company because if the work is done quicker and shipped to the customers faster, then the customers will be more satisfied and therefore tell people about the company, this is called word of mouth. There are many faults that arise because there arent enough employees. There are many faults that arise because there arent enough employees....
