416- Adhesive Lecture 09/22/2016 ° Adhesives This is an incredibly broad field in packaging o We could probably make a semester-long class in adhesives and adhesion alone o But we only have one lecture to do this Not covered very well in the course text either o Most of this lecture will be in addition to the assigned reading o Test questions will come from the class and the assigned reading ° ° Breadth of Adhesive Applications The corrugated linerboard is attached to the medium with… ADHESIVE!!! Boxes and cartons assembled and closed with… you guessed it ADHESIVE!!! Packaging tapes are films/papers coated with… ADHESIVES!!! Paper pet food bags, composite can bodies (pringles), labels on battles/cans/etc… ADHESIVE!!! In-mold labels are coated with heat activated ADHESIVE!! And so many more!!!! ° ° With so many different applications… Do you think there may be a lot of adhesive types also? Of course there are Would you expect a lot of different chemistries?
