She then leaves her family to live with them. The oldest brother always holds the authority and when she bares children the brothers will treat each child as their own and this is reciprocated back to them. As we American’s might find this very strange and unethical to those in Tibet that partake in this practice it is completely normal. 2. The practitioners of fraternal polyandry explain it as materialistic. Dorje reveals that he chose to marry with his two brothers in order to reach a higher level of property and wealth with them instead of having it divided amongst them if he were to take his own wife.
