Abstract : In technology sector, which includes aerospace and nuclear power engineering or other areas, where the large scale use of carbon fibers is driven by maximum performance and not by cost factors. We have identified and suggested some specific areas for future research in order to minimize the gap between theoretical and practically realized tensile strengths and other mechanical properties of carbon fibers. This present paper reviews the literature which deals with developments made during last few decades in the field of high performance carbon fibers. Introduction Carbon fibers or carbon are fibers of about 5–10 micrometres in diameter and composed of carbon atoms mainly. To produce a carbon fiber, the carbon atoms are bonded together in crystals that are more or less aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber as the crystal alignment gives the fiber high strength-to volume ratio. Several thousand carbon fibers are bundled together to form a tow , which may be used by itself or

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
