CIS 105: Operating Systems Term: Fall 2016 Instructor : Michael Brinkman Course Hours : Mondays 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM Office Hours: By appointment E-Mail : [email protected] COURSE DESCRIPTION This course delves into the structure and functions of operating systems. Topics include the relationship of the operating system to hardware and software, memory management, data storage, networks, viruses, and data security. Practice and problem solving related to operating systems. OVERVIEW This course will cover a wide array of topics pertaining to modern operating systems, with a focus on Microsoft Windows 10, but addressing other operating systems as appropriate, such as Mac OS X, Linux, iOS, Android OS, etc. You will learn a number of trouble-shooting techniques that will prepare you for maintaining both your own computer, as well as networked computers. PREREQUISITES None TEXTBOOK and Materials: USB Flash Drive may be desired for saving files, but is not required. Otherwise, you may upload your incomplete assignments to your Google Drive for later retrieval. 1
GRADING PROCEDURE The work for this course includes homework/lab assignments, quizzes and weekly online activities, including participating in discussions or polls, and a final exam. The final exam will be given in class at the regular meeting time: Monday, December 5, 2016 @ 6:30 P.M.
