JMS 710: Borchard Updated: Fall 09 1 Prospectus Sample Use the following materials to begin your Prospectus. Your formatting can be single or double spaced, but number your pages and include the following items. Note: I will return your Prospectus with suggestions for revisions, so be sure to hold on the draft with comments because I will ask you to resubmit them with your final paper, due at the end of the semester. Title : Pick a working title for your paper that uses key words and themes featured in your study. The title will, most likely, change several times before your final draft is due, so use a simple one to help frame your entire paper. Thematic Statement : The thematic statement provides an introduction to what you will address in your paper. Use the information you’ve gathered to describe the general scope of the paper, including the “who,” “what,” “where,” “when,” “why,” and “how?” You should include references to specific facts, people, places, and things, but at this point, you should not have developed any conclusions. Significance of the Study : Use this section to explain to the reader how your paper will be different than other papers on the general subject. This section features a “so what?” It also explains the relevance of your paper relative to a larger body of scholarship. Answer the following questions, both implicitly and explicitly: Why should the reader care? Why is this paper important? How does it contribute to the pool of knowledge on the particular
