Isaiah Ellison Engl 102 7/10/2016 Let the “Juice” Loose The issue of athletes abusing illegal or banned performance enhancing drugs or PEDs is something that has been argued for almost an entire century. In fact the very first ban of PEDs was in 1928 when the International Amateur Athletic Federation introduced the ban of stimulating substances. Since then there have been countless athletes in various sports that have been fined, banned, or striped of their titles or awards due to positive testing for performance enhancing drugs. There are several reasons as to why people are against performance enhancing drugs and some of them are valid reasons. With that being said if performance enhancing drugs were legalized it would actually level the playing field as much as it enhances it. Many people are against the legalization of PEDs for various reasons. All of which can be fairly argued but only one of those reasons should matter. One of the main reasons people are against PEDs is that they believe that PEDs give the user an unfair advantage over the rest of the competitors. Some argue that individuals that take PEDs are or would take away from the spirit of sport. With that said the spirit of sport can be defined as, “ the celebration of the human spirit, body, and mind, and is characterized by the following values: ethics, fair play and honesty health excellence in performance
