Philip Murphy History 231 – Medieval England to 1216 Professor Attreed 10/18/07 Research Topic : On King Henry I – I plan to look into the many different aspects of Henry’s life leading up to his eventual take over of the throne, and attempt to explain how the fact that he was not brought up to be a future king may have helped him. I plan to look into his education, and see how his preparation for the clergy improved his character and overall situation. Also, I’d like to go into his other training leading up to the point that he becomes king, using it to justify the success of his later reign. Furthermore, I want to look at how he played his brothers off of each other, using each to his advantage, and perhaps explain how he came out on top of all of this. Finally, I would bring in his dealings with foreign powers, namely the French King, and discover exactly what their relationship was and how it affected England as a country and a monarchy, and see how much his Norman ties and time spent in Normandy affected his subjects.
