ABSTRACT The counselor identity and role ambiguity is who the various stakeholders in education view the counselor as and the roles they imagine should be done by the counselor based on their understanding of who he/she is. The confusion is majorly whether the teacher counselor is first a teacher then a counselor or the vice versa. This confusion has seen a number of problems plague the department ranging from assigning of teachers with regular classwork load as teacher counselor without being relieved of the teaching duty, less time available for the students to access the services, inability to keep ethical standards of counseling practice and students shying away because they see the teacher counselor first as a teacher and not as a counselor. This work seeks to show how the impact of counselor identity and role ambiguity on delivery of counseling services in schools and give possible some practical recommendations to remedy the situation and improve the efficiency of the counselling services offered in Kenya Secondary school and specifically in Lwandeti Friends Secondary school. Key terms: counselor identity and role ambiguity, stakeholders in education, guidance and counselling department and teacher courses. iv
