For the second part of the experiment the crystals formed slower than anticipated for the hydrocarbon, and the acid never formed any visible crystals despite setting for over 20 minutes. Discussion/Conclusion The process of recrystallization involves dissolution of the solid in a solvent at an increased temperature and then re-formation of the crystals upon cooling. The altered temperature changes and solvents allow any impurities with differing boiling points and polarities to remain in
