Lab Final Review Lab2. Recrystallization The four most common methods for the separation and purification of organic compounds are recrystallization , extraction, distillation, and chromatography. Solid When is recrystallization not a suitable method to purify an organic material? a. When the organic material is not a solid. It is a liquid instead of solid. In no particular order, these points are : which is the easiest procedure to use ; which will be the fastest ; and which will give the best results for your situation. Recrystallization is most often favored for high melting solids. Recrystallization is also favored for thermally unstable solids (those that decompose when you try to get a melting point). This should not be considered a hard and fast rule; organic compounds love to be exceptions. What is Recrystallization? Recrystallization is the process of dissolving a solid material into a suitable solvent or mixture of solvents and allowing the material to crystallize (actually, recrystallize, since you normally start with impure crystals) from this solution.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
