2 Edgar And Lucy Firstly, the narrator of this story introduces his audience to the fact that all the three characters including Florence, Frank’s mother, Pio, his father, and Frank’s wife Lucy know very well what begot Frank. Florence knows the troubled state of mind that Frank was in. She loved her son dearly and knows that even if she had wanted to safe his life, there was very little or nothing she could have done because of the nature of death that Frank died. Frank fell off from a high bridge in his car, not even the government was able to retrieve his body (Lodato, 2018). Perhaps Florence consoles herself and copes with her son’s death by claiming that there if the government, with all the experts and resources could not retrieve his body, she definitely could not do it by herself. Besides, owing to Frank’s mental disposition, perhaps Florence consoles herself that id she had tried to, say, stop him from driving off the bridge, Frank could have ridden over her.
