Zeyad Sherif Ramadan PPD 227: (M. Woo) Planning Commission Observation Assignment 1. What is the case about? What are the main issues being raised during the hearing (Indicate the agenda item number) The owner of 721 E. Amaroso Place requested for a motion that his property be taken under consideration and declared as a Historic-Cultural Monument because it is an example of small very well built Craftsman home serving as an emblem of early 20 th century Los Angeles history. The home is located in a unique neighborhood and is a historic representation of Los Angeles home of working people. Originally it served as a weekend retreat in Venice in the 1920s however in the 1950s it was adopted as a primary residence. According to the Historic-Cultural Monument Designation Process designation, “ does not guarantee that the building cannot be demolished, but it does allow the Commission to delay demolition in order to create opportunities fro preservation solutions to emerge up to 180 days, plus another possible 180 day extension if approved by the City Council .” 2. What role is played by the commissioners The commissioners consider nominations of sites that become designated as City landmarks and create a forum for which discussion can take place over the preservation policy on the proposed landmark. The Commission forwards their recommendation to LA City Council for final decisions. The Commissioners also have the power to delay the demolition of a historically significant structure until proper review and discussion can be completed.
