Title: H1NMR & IR Spectroscopy Abstract: This experiment is aimed to identify the isomer of unknown compound by mean of NMR spectra and IR spectrum. Students can compare the refractive index with their unknown compound and known compound to confirm what unknown compound is. The result showed that the unknown compound #74 has molecular formula C8H8O2which is 4-methoxybenzaldehyde by considering all the possibilities. Introduction: The goal of this experiment is interpretation of NMR spectra in the structural determination of an unknown compound. By completing this experiment, I should be able to acquire and IR spectrum of unknown compound, obtain the refractive index of unknown compound, and acquire a H1NMR spectrum of unknowncompound. NMR stands for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and there are two types of compound, Carbon-13 and H1-proton. In this experiment we will consider H1NMR spectrum.
