Extra Credit Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution “is the accumulation of changes through succeeding generations of organisms that results in the emergence of new species.” – W ikipedia. Darwin proposes that since our first ancestors were put on this earth, evolution has altered them into a variety of different species. Since Darwin, we have taken great strides in the field of hereditary patterns of genetics, which are the main source of variation between organisms. A better understanding of the molecular structure of DNA has also played a large role in grasping how ancestors could evolve to form new species. Fossils show us that over time, accumulated changes in organisms have led to the many different species we see today. A fossil can show us an organism’s structure, and its relationships to the structures of other species, “allowing paleontologists to construct a family tree for all of the life forms on earth.” – Wikipedia .
