Maggie Rold 09-13-06 Gun Dealer Shot On Bus A gun dealer was shot yesterday on an MTA bus by a driver in a grey pickup. Orlando Schwartz, 36, was just a passenger when around 7:20 a.m. after leaving downtown L.A., the shots began firing. Schwartz, who was sitting in a window seat, was hit in the shoulder and arm. The rest of the bus, which was about two-thirds full, was physically unharmed. Although according to the bus driver, Gus Davies, the shooting touched off pandemonium inside the bus. The grey pickup truck sped away and the bus driver was unable to get the license

The bus, traveling line 49, only got as far as Temple Street on the northbound Harbor Freeway. Schwartz was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles where he remains in fair condition. Yesterdays bus shooting is the third such incident in a week. Police are not saying whether the shootings are related. One elderly female passenger stated, Usually you feel so safe in a big bus. But when they started shooting, I felt like a sitting duck....
