Aalok Trivedi 2/19/08 CCJS105, Section 0201 Why Do People Commit Crimes? Since the beginning of early civilizations, there has been the evolution of laws and every citizen has to follow; and with these set of rules, there has always been a group of people who break these laws and commit crimes . Before we understand and develop techniques and methods of crime prevention, we must first understand why crimes are committed . In my personal opinion, a pivotal reason why people commit crimes is due to their social influences and surroundings. A person’s biological and physical surroundings are key factors in figuring out why that person committed a crime. In my experience and observations throughout many years, a person with a low income is more likely to commit a crime, such as theft or burglary, rather than someone with a middle or high income. This may be because of a certain desperation factor and the need to “keep up with” people of higher income. Also, people with lower incomes are more likely to associate themselves with people of similar backgrounds and tendencies; therefore,
