SOCIAL NETWORKS 2 Social Networks A social network is an online platform that is aimed on facilitating social relations and online communication among individuals who have common interests, activities or other connections. A social network contains a representation of each person for example the user profile has personal details that comprise of name, location, hobbies and other interests. Social networking has been made possible by the use of a web-based technology that allows users to communicate over the internet by use of instant messages or e-mails. It has helped to transform the world into a global village where individuals can communicate instantly irrespective of their geographical locations (Kane, Alavi, Labianca & Borgatti, 2014). The use of Web 2.0 has enabled online users to share their content with others. It has a read-write ability that allows the user to create is/her content as well as providing a platform in which he/she can view the contents of others. Developments by use of Web 2.0 have been made possible by use of a pro-active user interface that is based on Javascript, XML and Ajax languages (Bowles, 2013). It simplifies the work of the user since they ought not to concern themselves on the in-build programming details. They just need to develop their contents on post on the online community where they can be accesses by anyone according to their preferences. The social media has impacted the world in different ways. It has changed how individuals, organizations and the community does its duties. Most of these impacts depend on how people view the social network. However, the social media has many positive effects compared to the negatives. Social websites that comprise of Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instagram allow people to share their information with new acquaintance, friends and family members with the aim of developing personal relationships through self-disclosures. The disclosures help to build a strong online relationships since they are based on self-descriptions

SOCIAL NETWORKS 3 and aspirations. Mostly online users develop a stronger bond with their online friends compared to the physical ones. The use of blogs also has enabled people to share their experiences, aspirations and likes through article writing. A blog acts as an online diary where a person can post anything with respect to the occurrence and date (Bowles, 2013). People share their opinions on some specific topics that contain current events like latest movies, political phenomenon, and favorite books.
