-1 There are many different aspects of ancient Greece that are different than our society today. One of the biggest differences from their time to now is their view on women. Many different ancient works show women differently and have them playing different roles. In most works, the role of women in the story reflects ancient Greek views on women. In Homer’s Iliad , the women play a role just as they do in their society. Unlike this work, however, Aristophanes Lysistrata has women playing an opposite role, demonstrating power and intelligence, something that is never heard of for women at that time. In the Iliad , women are portrayed as they were treated in actual Ancient Greek society. In the story, there are not many women even mentioned aside from the gods, and there are no strong female characters. The main women of the story are property of men or are used in the storyline to make a strong male character look good. In book 1, Agamemnon states “The girl is mine and she’ll be an old woman in Argos before I let her
