Destinie Miner Week 9 questions 1. What did the founders “say” was the purpose of the convention in the summer of 1787? The Convention began to revise the Articles of Confederation. They created a document that allowed for change, did not allow permanent nobility/aristocracy, and protected property through law. 2. What were the Virginia Plan and the New Jersey Plan? During the constitutional convention, these two plans were proposed to revise the Articles of Confederation. The Virginia Plan proposed that the government should consist of three branches (legislative, executive, and judicial). In addition, the legislative branch should have two sections, in which each state had representation proportionate to its population. The first section/house would be elected by the people, and the second would be elected by the first house. The New Jersey Plan proposed that each state would have one representative no matter its population. In addition, this plan proposed other rules such as giving Congress the authority to collect taxes. 3. What was the Great Compromise? The Great Compromise was the agreement that was reached during the convention between these two plans. It established the two sections of Congress: House of Representatives and the Senate.
