Hamza Nakhoda Laurie Stahle EASC 150g January 29, 2008 Reading Response 1 Sheridan Prasso, the author of The Asian Mystique : Dragon Ladies, Geisha Girls & Our Fantasies of the Exotic Orient , has interesting views and perceptions about how the western world views the East. Throughout the book I felt that she had a snotty attitude about how men in the West, especially the United States, had no clue of what the East was all about. According to her they had this curtain over their eyes and it was her duty to expose them to the real Asia that they so blindly find irresistible. The culture that she experienced in East Asia has basically been changed to meet the needs of the hundreds of travelers and westerners who come to these courtiers to find this “Asian mystique” that they so crave. Her visits to the Super Pussy bar, Bangkok’s red-light districts, and other such places just showed her how these places were taking advantage of the clueless Western men. I agree with her concerns that the consequences of the stereotypes are very
