Merkley1Bradley Merkley Writing 2010-052CooperFall 2016The Man, the God, the Legend: A “Man of Steel” Synthesis Who is the “Man of Steel”? The name implies a seeming untouchable being but one who’s origin is still terrestrial. In my synthesis I will be using the sources provided to explore theduality of Superman’s being and origin, examine his ideals and set of morals as well as discuss the idea that the movie “Man of Steel”is the rebirth of superman from the traditional underwear over the pants super dude to the dark man presented in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”.“In the beginning of “Man of Steel”the first scene depicts the birth of Kal-el, the first live birth Krypton has seen in generations. With this Kal’El is given a gift that no one else on his planet has, free will. He is given a shot at his own destiny and with this director Zach Snyder also gains an opportunity to redefine what it is to be Superman. With the rebirth of Superman comes a complete revamp of the overall feel of the character, as stated by Hornaday “that dour tone turns out to be far more appropriate for a tortured hero brooding in his cave than for an all-American alien who is as much a product of the wholesome windswept Plains as a distant planet called Krypton." (Hornaday 2). The rebirth of Superman is also depicted directly in the filming in “A thesis on Man of Steel” this correlation is directly shown. “As Superman drops on the left panel, Kal'El is born on the right panel the drop therefor indicates the moment of birth" (Thesis on man of steel). With this Superman is reborn as the modern Man of Steel.
