Introduction: The two kinds of analysis essential to experimental chemistry are qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. In this experiment, one will be performing standard tests for the qualitative analysis of some cations. The identification of a compound, or the components of a mixture, is known as qualitative analysis. In this experiment, one will carry out some of the standard tests for the qualitative detection of some common cations in aqueous solution. Purpose: The purpose of this experiment is to analyze and separate the cations of Fe +2 , Al +3 , Cu +2, and Fe +3 from nitrate solutions in the known and unknown solutions. This will be accomplished by precipitating the cations in suitable insoluble solutions.
