Unformatted text preview: The public meeting I attended was a City Council meeting. These City Council meetings are held each Thursday at 9:00 am and take place at the City Council Chamber located at Main and Commerce streets. These meetings are open to the public unless there is an executive session being closed to the public. These City Council meetings serve for various purposes. City Council begins the official business of the meetings by considering Consent Agenda Items. Consent items include items such as the purchase of equipment and supplies; capital improvements; or other similar items. City Council officials will then move on to Ceremonial Items. Ceremonial Items are presented by the Mayor or by the city council designee during presentation ceremonies in the City Council Chamber, at a particular event as scheduled or by mail. All certificates are then signed by the Mayor or on occasion, the Mayor and Council member.
