Joe DeCrane Art 190-970 4.26.2007 Pablo Picasso: A Modern Art Master If ever there were an artist that could be referred to as a genius it would be Pablo Picasso. This paper will prove that Picasso truly was an artistic genius by examining the life and work of this amazing artist as well as the different artistic periods Picasso went through. Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Clito Ruiz y Picasso, known today simply as Pablo Picasso, was born October 25, 1881 in Málaga, Spain (3). Pablo was the first child of José Ruiz y Blasco and María Picasso y López. Picasso’s father, José Ruiz, was a painter whose specialty was the naturalistic depiction of birds. As well, Ruiz spent most of his life as a professor of art at the School of Crafts and a curator of a local museum. It was from his father that Picasso had his first formal academic art training, such as figure drawing and painting in oil (3). Picasso became very educated in the field of art thanks to his father. He attended many different carpenter schools throughout his childhood, mainly those where his father taught. Picasso also took some college-level courses at the Academy of Arts in Madrid; however he did not finish his studies there, leaving after less than a year (3). After studying art in Madrid, Picasso made his first trip to Paris, the art capital of Europe, in 1900. Picasso, still a struggling youth at the time, divided up his time between
