Neal Bhatia 9/27/07 Instructions for Setting up Carbon Dioxide Scrubber in Apollo 13 The purpose of these instructions is to show how to create an effective CO 2 scrubber by connecting a canister to a spacesuit hose using a plastic bag. The spacesuit hose will then be connected to the environmental control system (ECS) which will remove CO 2 from the air until safe levels of it remain. Following each step carefully is critical for the CO 2 scrubber to function to its full capability. Participation by all astronauts is recommended to save as much time as possible during initial set up and replacement. Materials and Equipment: 1 manila cover 1 piece of paper from manila cover 1 roll of duct tape 4 Canisters 1 plastic bag 1 pair of first aid kit scissors 1 spacesuit hose 1 Environmental Control System (ECS) Procedure: 1. Begin by opening the manila cover and folding it from top to bottom, which should from a long rectangle. 2. Fold a piece of paper found in the manila folder into thirds, as if you were putting a business
