Assignment 1-1 Due: 1/25/2016 The Difference Between a Gif and JPEG Image File Victoria McClellan Gif and JPEG are graphic files and can slow down pages so it is important that they are applied to web pages sparingly. According to the book Web Development GIF is best used for flat line drawing containing solid tones and simple images such as clip art. Also GIF’s use a maximum of 256 colors and uses the .gif extension. GIF supports transparency, Animation, and these images can be optimized to the lowest size and still renders a perfect image with quality pictures. In Comparison, the JPEG graphic files are best when use for photographic images. According to the book Web Development JPEG image can have 16.7 million colors but unlike GIF graphic images JPEG cannot be made transparent, nor can they be made animated. The JPEG used the lossy compression and because of this some pixels in the original image will be lost or omitted from the compressed file.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
