Rooms are assigned by DISCUSSION NUMBER as follows: Lubar School of Business Building Room N140 DS 601, 602, 603, 604, 605, 606, 607, 608, 609 Lubar School of Business Building Room N146 Ds 610, 611, 612, 613, 614 In order to prepare adequately for the exam you should Have attended lecture classes, Review the class notes and chapters for the following topics: o Understanding Hardware o Communications and Networks o Enterprise Computing (lecture notes only); Listen to podcasts on Firewalls and Computer Threats; View flash presentation on Network Characteristics; Read Chapters 6, 7 and 12 (pp536-544 and 551-554) in the lecture text. The exam consists of 40 multiple-choice questions that are drawn from class lecture, podcasts and your text. Please bring picture identification and two #2 pencils to the exam!!! Chapter 6 - Understanding Hardware Central Processing Unit (CPU) Central Processing Unit (CPU) o Processes instruction, performs calculations, manages flow of data and instructions o Sits in slot on motherboard o CPU Speed – processor clock speed in gigahertz (GHz) o How it works o Control Unit Machine cycle carried out for each instruction fetch, decode, execute, store o Arithmetic/logic unit Performs arithmetic, logical and comparison operations
