Physics 226 Assignment #2 April 6, 2016 Due Wednesday, April 13, 2016 1. Based on Kogut, 4-1. Two events occur at the same place in frame S and are separated by a time interval of 12s. What is the spatial separation between these two events in frame S’ in which the events are separated by a time interval of 23s? Frame S’ moves with constant velocity along the - x 1 direction of frame S. You did this problem in HW1 using Lorentz transformations, but here you should repeat it using invariant separations, which is (arguably) a more straightforward method. 2. Consider a series of N + 1 different inertial reference frames S 0 , ..., S N where each frame S k moves with speed v in the x -direction relative to frame S k - 1 . (So frame S 1 moves with velocity v ˆ e x relative to frame S 0 , frame S 2 moves with velocity v ˆ e x relative to frame S 1 , etc .) To find the combined effect of multiple boosts along a common direction, the easiest approach is not to use velocity addition formulas but rather to characterize boosts using rapidity

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
