Purpose: The purpose of this experiment was to determine the gravitational pull from a
heavy led sphere. Using a cavendish balance and a laser we were able to analyze how
gravity affects a pendulum like apparatus.
Apparatus: Cavendish balance, Laser, Stopwatch, and meterstick.
Procedure:
Part 1: data collection
● Visually inspect the balance and locate all parts of it.
● Assign each group member a role in this experiment, the time keeper, a person to
measure the period of motion, and a data collector.
● Watch the laser spot closely as it moves and record the values of positon and time
every 30 seconds, until the spot has reached at least 3 maxima.
● Once the data has reached 3 maxima use an equation to calculate the equilibrium.
● Use values calculated to get the maxima to get the period of oscillation.
