Justin Trahan Coaches Behaviors Towards Sports Officials Coaches today have gotten worse and worse when it comes to their behavior towards the officials in sports. I have been on both ends of the spectrum as a player in both high school and college, and then as a softball umpire in both high school and college as well. So I understand the reasoning and the thought process of both the coach, and the official. It is almost unheard of for an official to actually purposely rob a team of crucial or close calls in a game because they favor a specific team, or have something against the other. In most cases the official could care less who wins the game, and his or her main concern is to just finish their game without creating controversy, or drawing the attention from the game to themselves. But as a coach when the close calls aren’t going your team’s way they tend to blame it on the officials. It is just our human nature when we are up in the moment in a big game, or playing one of our hated rivals to put blame on any
