Education in Prisons Prison. What do you think about when you hear that word? Murders, 12 x 12 feet cells, criminals? These are common words associated with prisons but behind the barbed wire gate and into the prison are classrooms and much needed rehabilitation taking place. Education in prisons, or correctional Education, is a crucial and essential key in improving the lives of prisoners in turn helping keep our community and society safe. In definition, correctional education is an effective rehabilitation program allowing detained adult and juvenile students to reassess their values and priorities in life in a positive way, while acquiring the personal, social and technical skills necessary for a successful and permanent reentry into society as productive citizens, parents, and coworkers.
