Ms. Smeltzer English 99 – 03 21 March 2007 Effects of Being a Well Known Athlete in High School While being a star athlete in high school the athlete is well known in the school as well as through out the community. The athlete may get special treatment by the faculty and, or the staff at the school. The pressure is on for the athlete to perform day in and day out because the playbook just may revolve around you. If the team wins, they are heroes throughout the community but if the team loses. They are criticized throughout the community. Although there are many positive effects to being a well-known athlete in high school, there are also some unknown negative effects. Many athletes in high school get special treatment by the faculty, and or staff at the school. Accordingly as a member of the varsity football team in high school I was one of the individuals who did receive special for example when I was failing a course I should have been ineligible for that week but the teacher I had for the course let it slide and I was able to play that in that weeks game.
