Friday, October 5, 2007 Identities and Ethnicities 1. Socio-political order and identities - We all have identities such as American, student, and sibling.  - Two aspects of socio-political order 1. Patterns of political organization 2. Consciousness of belonging to a group (examples: class, sorority, honors  society, sports, auburn in general) 2. Ethnicities - People are kind of stereotyped depending on their ethnicity. - Parts of your identity are portrayed through how you dress, or live. *2 identifying characteristics 1. organment- story of how they came to be who they are today 2. ethnic boundary markers – things people use to tell people what group they belong to. *2 theories 1. Primordialist- there has to have been some kind of grouping before the  ethnicity to exist  in the first place -doesn’t just come out of nowhere… was there and someone just gave it a
