EEOS 260 – Global Environmental Change Essay Questions 1) Ecosphere Structure & Functioning *The three functional groups of an ecosystem are producers (making food), consumers (animals), and decomposers. *The suns energy produces plants, plants take energy from the sun and produce glucose and the consumers eat this, exchanging the suns energy through the plants into actual sugar. Producers are the only ones who can take suns energy, and turn it into something that can be used. * Net Primary Productivity – of the producers is what the plants are actually growing and minus what they are actually using up. What is left, what is able to be passed down to the next layer is the NPP. Between 3 layers, only 10% of that sugar or energy is passed to the next level. *3 Ecosystem resources: renewable resources, renewable resources (oil) and potentially renewable matter resources. Bio-diversity *Genetic – Variation of genes within species *Species - Species richness; Species evenness; Taxonomic diversity *Ecosystem – Differences between ecosystem types, and the diversity of habitats and ecological processes occurring within each ecosystem type.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
